Our Technology

As we began development of our web-based design tools, we were constantly plagued with the question, "Will it run on a ....?" or "But, what about version ...?" We realized that we were not going to be able to control the environment our users provide for our tools to run. We had to make some conscious decisions on what environments and which features to support. The following features are used in our web pages.

We develop and test primarily with Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer. We test our pages with other browsers and operating systems.
We make extensive use of Document Object Model (DOM) resources and methods.
We make extensive use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
We use Cookies to store session information. These cookies tell us who you are when you move from screen to screen in the tools.
We use Javascript for browser-side processing. When you make a change to a tool setting, we attempt to reflect the results of that change immediately without going back to our servers. The performance (or lack thereof) that you see is largely dependent on your browser's ability to process Javascript.
When performance is an issue, we create a JAVA applet to gain performance. Typically, we will first code a routine in Javascript, when it is too slow we will code it in JAVA. Our applets require Sun's JAVA-plugin to be configured for your browser.
Our Javascript and Java applets DO NOT directly read files from your computer.
When you upload a file to our servers, we parse the file immediately. We do not maintained a copy of your file on our servers.
We do not keep any credit card information on our servers.
We do not keep unencrypted passwords on our servers. We cannot tell you what your password was; we can only reset it to a random value.
Our screens check the ownership of a design before any design content is displayed.

If your browser is old, it may not support these features in a predictable manner. We strongly urge you to use the most current version of your browser that is available, if not for better operation with our tools, at least to have the most current security fixes in place.

Our Products

Our products are web-based design tools. Tools are available on a subscription basis. Subscriptions may be paid by the end user or may be subsidized by a third party sponsor. Web-based tools offer several advantages

Tools updates are transparent to the user. Users always have access to the current version of the tools.
We can lower expenses related with software distribution.
We gain immediate feedback on the use of the tool and problems that users may have.
We can give free access to new tools in the beta stage of development. This access can later be restricted to subscribers as the tool matures.
